Why connect your Tesla?

The best mileage log is the one you never forget.

Most people lose deductions to trips they forgot to write down. Your car already knows every mile. Connecting it lets MileHatch catch them for you.

Audit-grade proofMiles read from the car's odometer, not typed in later. That's exactly what the IRS wants to see.
No forgotten tripsAt the $0.76/mile rate, one missed 20-mile trip a week is about $790 a year.
Complete recordsDate, start and end address are filled in, so trips aren't flagged as incomplete.
Read-only. MileHatch reads gear, odometer and location while driving. It has no command access: it can't unlock, start or control your car. Remove it any time in the Tesla app.

What MileHatch can see on your Tesla

Connecting asks for four Tesla permissions: sign-in, staying connected, vehicle information and location. This is what we use them for.

Revoke it any time: in MileHatch open Tesla and choose Disconnect Tesla (deletes our Tesla tokens and car list and stops streaming), and/or remove MileHatch under third-party apps in your Tesla account settings. To remove the virtual key, use Locks in the Tesla app. Trips already logged stay in your log.

FAQ

Good questions

Do I need a Tesla?

No. Voice logging through Grok and the web log work with any car. With an iPhone, any car with CarPlay or Bluetooth can log drives automatically (how it works). A Tesla adds automatic logging with exact odometer miles.

How does iPhone auto-logging work? Do I need an app?

No app. Apple's built-in Shortcuts app sends your location to MileHatch twice per drive: when your iPhone connects to the car and when it disconnects. MileHatch fills in both addresses and the driving distance, and the trip waits for you to mark it Business or Personal. Setup takes about 5 minutes with our step-by-step guide. Miles are the driving distance of the route, so check them if you made stops. Android isn't supported yet.

Why does connecting a Tesla ask for “vehicle information” and “location”?

Those are Tesla's names for the smallest permissions that include what we need: gear (a drive started or ended), odometer (the miles) and location (the start and end address). MileHatch can't unlock, start or control the car, and you can remove it any time in the Tesla app under Locks.

Why do I have to add a “virtual key” to my car?

Tesla only streams driving data to apps whose key is on the car. It's Tesla's way of making sure you approved it. The key is read-only for MileHatch.

Do I pay anything during the free trial?

No. Nothing is charged for 14 days, and no card is needed to start. If you never pick a plan, you pay nothing.

What exactly happens to the founding $1 price?

You pay $1/month for your first 12 billed months after the free trial. In month 13 the subscription automatically moves to the regular $6/month. It's shown on the checkout page and in your billing portal, and you can cancel at any time.

Is the mileage log IRS-compliant?

For each business trip the log keeps what the IRS asks for: date, destination, business purpose and miles. Trips missing any of these are flagged. Rates follow the IRS standard mileage rate for each trip's date. We give estimates, not tax advice.

What do you do with my data?

We use it only for your mileage log. No ads, no data sales. Card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers. Export or delete everything yourself from your account page. See the privacy policy.

Can I switch or cancel?

Yes, any time from your account page. Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the period you've paid for, and your trips stay exportable.
